DMJX project in which we were tasked with creating a new title sequence to a existing tv-series.
We chose to create a title sequence to Stranger Things. The goal was to create a visual universe that sets the tone for the series. The animation should be a new interpretation and thus not in the same style as the original intro. We had an idea to use sketch-like illustrations in the same style of the drawings Will (a character from the series) are doing of the things he sees.

Every illustration is done by hand in Procreate and animated frame by frame. After that it was finished in After Effects for typography and fine tuning.

The illustration style together with the "wobbly" effect from the frame by frame technique, fits the Stranger Things themes very well. The "childish" drawings paired with the music and colors gives the eerie vibe the series is known for.
All the different transitions from one illustration to the next, are all smooth and almost blends together. This makes the illustrations look alive.
